Title:Chez Faire in the hooooouse...

I think I scared Con and probably reminded him of when I was so sick. He hadn’t seen me that still since my illness, usually I’m tapping my feet to the beat of the music in the car, or I’m jibber jabbering away about some topic. It could be the color of the flowers to the state of the current Democratic Party line, it didn’t really matter, I’d be talking up a storm. But I was silent as the grave in the car.

“You gonna perk up?”

“God I hope not.”

He gaped at me. I shrugged. I wasn’t about to try and start to explain as we rolled up to the party. And somehow, I knew he was going to figure it out.

Managing our way up the castle, Conner leaned forward to knock on the door. When it opened, I almost thought Kermie had pulled a fast one and turned himself red for the evening.

“You must be Lilo!” he grabbed my hand, pumping it up and down smiling wide, “I’ve already heard so much about you from Kermit, sweet cheeks. We have got to talk about all your adventures in the last couple of months. And you!”

Conner blinked as the perfect host with the most sprang on him, clapping his back, “The man with an eye for bikes even Jesse James would envy! Good to meet you finally.”

“I’m Valmont, welcome to our home, please please…” he waved us in, his cheer making me momentarily forget my predicament. That is, until Val noticed. “What’s up with the careful walking? Did you hurt yourself, sugarplum? Well, truth be told, you’re hurting my eyes with your beauty… Where did you get that outSTANDing gown?”

The giggles that bubbled from me shook my insides and then my outsides, and I had to take half a second to catch my breath, “One picked it out for me.”

“This the same fella that put that beautiful red head in chain maille for the evening?”

Conner’s head snapped up so fast, I thought he had injured himself, “You seen ‘er?”

“Oh yeah, they’re all here. House of Nice, the Menagerie, House of Blue, the Castle, Monster Garage. Quite the gang. There’s mixing and mingling going on in the two big rooms with food, beverage and entertainment. The holo suites are fired up and the rooms are available for your use. And there are also accomodations prepared in one of the wings for you to stay the night. Just look for your names on the doors,” he smiled warmly. I squeezed his hand as he led us into the ballroom where a lot of the aforementioned households were lingering. The spread and the decorations simply took my breath from me.

“You’ve done too much.”

“Not nearly enough, starfish.”

“Where’s your family?” I asked, trying to divert the attention from my slightly pale demeanor and racing heartrate.

“Oh they’re around, making trouble I’m sure. In fact…Ange!! My little sunflower,” he beckoned, “Come here, sweetie.”

When the young woman he called strolled over, I had to smile. It was the first time I had seen a Buffy doppelganger. Thin, poised and graceful in her strappy heels, she floated over to us with a soft grin. Her attention was diverted for a moment, and she risked a glance to the room again, “For a minute, I thought you were hailing Ms. Jolie over there.

Her eyes met ours, and that soft grin turned seven degrees warmer. “Hello.”

“This is our girl, Angelina,” Valmont introduced us, “This is Aimes, and this is….”

“Conner.” His voice spilled out of his face. I glanced at him, my head quirking almost painfully. Was he dumbstruck? Angelina blushed a little, and giggled, her hair bouncing gently. She had noticed. His hand was stuck out straight and open, waiting for her to shake it. The only problem was, it was stiff as a board. I had to wonder what else was.

“Nice to meet you,” her gentle hand took his and squeezed gently as there wasn’t much else she could do with the frozen appendage. He didn’t let her hand go.

“I like bikes.”

My hand covered my mouth to hold back the laughter. Covering with a gentle cough, “Con, are you okay?”

“’Course I am, why’d you ask?” His voice was much clearer talking to me, it was then he let go of her hand almost as if he had been burned. I was not about to hurt his ego or start a fight at that point, I simply nodded and hoped that it was a fluke.

“No reason,” I turned to Angelina, “We love your home.”

“Thanks, it’s very big, can take some getting used to, but you’ll have the hang of it in no time,” she smiled. Conner’s face was blank again. He nodded but I was sure he had no idea what she had just told us.

“I have my own shop.”

“That’s….. nice,” she tried not to laugh. His face bloomed a red flush, and that beautiful mouth got clamped real tight. With eyes darting, I could tell he was running a quick diagnostic, to figure out what exactly was happening. I certainly had never heard him act like such a fool around any of us girls. There was a first time for everything I suppose, but he didn’t seem to want to accept that.

“Why don’t you try and find T and Rella, Con?” I patted his hand and gave him a push on his bottom. He nodded and wandered off in a stupor. Angelina and Valmont looked at him and then at me. I shrugged. “I have no idea.”

We shared a soft laugh, and I noticed Jack and LL lounging about. Valmont let me know that the rest of the Monster Garage, including Havoc, were off having marvelous adventures in the holosuites. A wicked, awful idea filtered through my mind, and I excused myself gracefully so that I could try and stir up a hornet’s nest, ignoring the one angrily bouncing around inside of me.
